Free Bleeding: What It Is and How to Practice It

No use of any products during your bleeding 🩸 —this is what free bleeding (FB) proposes.

Let the blood flow freely down your legs, without restriction, without rules. Sounds liberating, right?

When I talk about FB, many people imagine 💭 exactly that, and while it is true that this is one way to bleed freely, very liberating indeed, ❌ it is by no means the only way.

To start talking 🗣 about it, we first need to understand that our cervix, the opening through which our blood 🩸 exits, is a sphincter, just like your urethra and anus. This means that, just like you learned to control them to prevent leaks, you can also control your cervix and retain blood until you want to release it 👌. The first step is to connect with your pelvic floor, contract and relax it, and become familiar with the different sensations 🧘.

When your blood is released, it comes out intermittently, and your body always gives signals 👂: sometimes before blood 🩸 flows, you may feel tingling, warmth, or even as if a cup 🍷 is filling. This usually goes unnoticed because we were never taught to focus on our body’s language, much less on our menstruation 🩸. But if you pay attention, you’ll notice that gradually your body reveals its unique way of communicating with you.

Another thing that often happens is that when you communicate with your body, it responds.

The first time I practiced free bleeding, I did it without any theory, so I decided it was best to ally with my body 🧘‍♀️. I asked my body not to bleed 🩸 except when I went to the bathroom. Guess what happened? 😱 Indeed, my body started retaining the blood, just like it does with urine, until I went to the bathroom 🚽. Later, I’ve had FB experiences where I did stain, usually when I was more nervous or didn’t mind staining. But I assure you, if you talk 🗣 to your body, it responds.

Another way to practice FB is by controlling when you bleed ⏰. This technique is usually applied after some time practicing free bleeding and knowing your body more deeply 👂.

In this case, acupuncture trigger points are used, which naturally encourage blood flow 🩸.

These two points, pressed for 30 seconds 🕰 three times consecutively, with 10-second breaks, help release menstrual blood 🩸 naturally.

This type of FB is used, for example, when we want to go out and make sure we won’t bleed during that time. Blood is eliminated beforehand, and that’s it.

Each body is different, so you’ll need to see how your body responds to this stimulation and whether it needs more or less. The pressure should be deep and steady. If you have pain during menstruation, this technique is not recommended, as it may increase uterine contractions and discomfort.

Some women only practice free bleeding when offering to the Earth 🌍, squatting to let blood touch the Pachamama directly, either in a ritual or simply for pleasure and enjoyment.

You can bleed however YOU want and feel called to, because it’s YOUR bleeding 🔥🌹.
